Turtle Bay, Shaved Ice and Hollywood Lied.

James' turn... Sunday.

With our bodies still on East Coast time we were up and about at 7am. And let's face it, a skin-full of Mai Tai's the night before doesn't really give you the best chance for a good night's sleep!

So at 7.30am we jumped into Tonto, our trusty convertible 5 litre steed, and decided to head up to the North Shore in search of the Hukilau Cafe as featured in the Adam Sandler / Drew Barrymore flick, "50 First Dates"... did we find it? Yes and No! Does it exist? Yes. Does it look like we expected, set next to the water with views of the ocean and the mountains? NO!

Here's what it actually looks like... Snob, I am not. Feed my dog at this place, I would not. :o)

Anyway, wind back an hour and we're in the car on our way up the eastern shore of the Island. Half way up the coast we came across this amazing little beach. Besides the drunken tramp sleeping on a bench in the carpark, it was idyllic...

So back to the trek to the North Shore in search of a munch at 8am on a Sunday morning, and completely GUTTED at the fly-trap that was the Hukilau Cafe, we went to the Turtle Beach resort... This place was amazing. We had breakfast out on the terrace which was overlooking the pool, the ocean, an amazing little cove and the mountains. We couldn't have asked for more - A-MAZING!

Fully fed, and let's face it - heading for a mid-morning / post night-out on the Mai Tais food coma we decided to hit the beach and lay out for a few hours. Awesome beach and the water was perfect.

Mid-afternoon we decided to head back south via the road through the valley, down through the middle of the island. On the way, Matsumoto's famous shaved ice parlour. Now, apparently Hawaiians go nuts for this stuff and there was a line about 40 people deep (no joke!) outside of this place. So like the good little tourists we stood in line, waiting for our tasty, frozen sweet-treat. 30 flavours to choose from, surrounded by pictures of celebs who have visited this little shack over the years...

Here's what you get...

Here's how it tastes...
